‘Anger’
Directed & Edited
Anger was my first experience directing with a full crew.
In this project, my contribution was:
Storytelling/Scriptwriting
Writing the script and coming up with the concept of the short film.
Pre-production & Planning
Creating a pre-production packet for the crew, included a shot list, location scouting, storyboards, overheads, schedule for the day of filming, and coordination for all of the props, wardrobe, and various other details that were required to properly execute the vision.
Director
Leadership: As a director, I worked with the actors on their on-screen actions and performance to properly execute the feeling of the film.
Time management: We had 2 hours to shoot this film due to scheduling. We completed the shoot within the available time frame.
Improvisation: When we faced setbacks on certain shots or sequences, I had to make quick decisions to keep our crew on track and to get the best possible footage for the edit. Knowing what can and cannot be done in the post-production played to my advantage.
Editor
Sequencing: Edited in Davinci Resolve Studio, organized and curated the best footage from the day of filming. Began piecing it together to create a feeling of intensity with the timing. In this stage, I focus on the pacing of the project and how clips mesh together visually.
Color Grading: I created the color grade for this film in Davinci Resolve as well. My intention was for it to have a darker tone but still have deep colors. The day of filming was a bright sunny day, and I believe I succeeded in giving the footage an ominous and intense feeling.
Sound Design: The sound design was done in Ableton Live and Davinci Resolve. I downloaded open-source sound effects to go along with the ones I already had in my possession. For the soundtrack, I sampled songs from my library and then chopped and refined them in Ableton to fit the film.
I did my own “digital foley” creation in Ableton, adding EQs, Compressors, Reverb, and delay to have sounds be as realistic as possible.
Then, in Davinci I layered these sounds, combining some to make sound effects like the fall and collision between the two students. I used Fairlight in Davinci Resolve to mix and master the music and sound effects for the final cut.
Created with classmates at Berkeley City College, Video Production Class.
Shot in Berkeley, California.
Midterm Project.
